Teaching in Schools

I currently work part time at the prestigious Cranbrook School Performing Arts Centre. The centre was extensively renovated in 2004 at a cost of £1.8 million. This indicates the schools attitude and commitment to music studies, and the students abilities are high indeed.
I structure lessons using mainly the RGT, and also ABRSM grades. Studying for RGT guitar grades has an added bonus, as grades 6 to 8 earn UCAS points, that are added to your points gained at school.
I think it encouraging that it's been proven that school students who learn a musical instrument, actually perform better at core studies.

Whilst I work at Cranbrook and other schools, and hold private lessons as an individual, I also work as a peripatetic tutor for 440 music Ltd. This is a wholly owned partnership of professional tutors who teach guitar in local schools, utilising the grading structure of the Registry of Guitar Tutors.
If you know of, or work for a school looking to run guitar classes, why not contact me direct, or go to the 440 Music site via the links page.

Schools get credits for Registry Of Guitar Tutors exams

The DfES has recently endorsed RGT graded examinations (1 - 8) as approved qualifications for credits in the Schools Achievement and Attainment Tables.
This means schools will receive credits for any RGT exams ‘where the school has played a significant part in the candidate obtaining the award’. This will apply if the student has learnt guitar or bass through the school, regardless of whether the exam is ultimately held at the school or another venue.
The new accreditation also applies to popular music theory, classical guitar and all QCA approved LCM (London College of Music) exams, as well as the RGT electric guitar and bass exams.

I am a full member of The Registry of Guitar Tutors.
